How to Commission a piece of artwork

If you’ve never commissioned an original piece of artwork before, don’t worry, it’s really simple and reading this will guide you through each step so you know what to expect.

Step 1 - Get a suitable photograph

I work from photographs, so first up, I will need you to provide a photograph of the subject matter for me to work from. It might be that you already have a good photograph in mind. You don’t need the latest photography equipment to get a good photo - I’ve worked from pictures taken on a disposable camera before. All smartphones take perfectly decent photos for me to work from as well. If you want some more advice about best lighting conditions and other details, it’ll be worth having a conversation over the phone about these details. You can find these details here

Step 2 - Decide the size and medium of the artwork

I work in a variety of sizes and mediums so you need to decide what you would like the finished piece to look like. Do you want a small or a large picture? Watercolour Painting or Charcoal Drawing.

If you’re not sure which medium to choose, have a look through my gallery to see what catches your eye. You can also send me an image, and I can advise as to what might look best.

I will then work on the artwork from my studio once all the details have been finalised.

Step 3 - The finishing touches

I can provide personalised cards and prints in addition to the original. Cards are available as a folded greetings cards style or a standard postcard. My prints are taken from the original art work and scanned. It is then printed onto Fine Art Etch Paper using genuine Epson ink for archival prints that will last up to 70 years. Each print is carefully mounted and presented in a similar fashion to the original.

Framing. I can frame the artwork if you would like it to arrive ready to hang on the wall.

Delivery.

Finally the artwork is either delivered to you or you can collect it from my studio in Halifax.
