I was asked by a customer who had previously commissioned a house portrait in watercolour if I also painted people.
I do paint portraits from time to time, mostly of peoples children or grand-children from photographs that have been taken in the past. On this occasion, I was asked to paint a group portrait of ten family members!
I was sent several photos to consider and I was able to make a proposal as to which would be the best picture to work from for the purpose of the watercolour portrait.
I started, as is my usual practice, by drawing the layout and then adding the watercolour layer by layer working from light to dark.
This was a really detailed piece and it took time to get it right but I was delighted with the finished result.
